Mrs. Gunn-Robertson's split grade 4 to 5 class at Milltown Elementary School has been asked to learn as much as they can about Samuel Champlain and Sieur de Mons’ voyage to New France (Acadie). Along this journey of discovery you will learn about the lives and explorations of these voyageurs. You will learn about their voyage, their settlement, why they came, who they met, how they survived, who did not survive and why, and what happened to the settlement at St. Croix Island. As many of you have already told me, no one lives on St. Croix Island today. Why is this? We know this was where one of the first settlements of the New World began so why are people not living there today? It is up to you to discover the answer through this journey. This information will help you to better understand the lives and explorations of Samuel Champlain and Sieur de Mons and will also help you to compete in our Who Wants to be an Explorer game.
